Reservation and operation policies


  • All clients must fill the reservation form.

  • Clients under the age of 18 must have their reservation form filled by his parents or legal guardian.

  • Rocks in Rio follow the ethical and conduct code of AGUIPERJ (local professional mountain guides association). All our guides are certified by this association and will instruct the clients about local rules and regulations. Clients must cooperate with the guides and wear helmet.

  • We respect the ratio 1 guide to each 2 clients for rock climbing and 1 guide for each 4 clients for mountaineering (Ex. Regular route of Sugar Loaf, Pedra da Gávea).

  • The guides does not have the obligation of taking the clients on climbing they judge inappropriate to their skills or due to any factor which compromises safety. Judgment is based on the information provided by the client and the guide knowledge and observance. The guide has total authority to cancel the activity at any time.

  • To hire a guide, expedition or join a course, clients must fill in the reservation form providing his personal information and choosing the intended date. As soon we receive the request we will reply confirming availability, climbing details and will send payment instructions.

  • Payment can be made via PayPal or bank transfer (residents only). As soon we get the reservation form we will send a PayPal invoice with all the details (climbing, date, time, optional, meeting point). To pay through PayPal follow the instructions on the invoice. You need to have or create an account on PayPal. PayPal offer several ways including credit card (visit www.paypal.com to know more). If you prefer the bank transfer, find our bank details on the field “Mensagem ao destinatário” of the invoice and send us the receipt at rocks@rocksinrio.com.br. To confirm the reservation you have to perform payment.

  • Cancellations or changes must be requested with a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Shorter notice requests will be charged 50% of the price. “No show” or cancellations on the day of the climb won’t be entitled to a refund. We count on your understanding.

  • When transportation is not hired, clients have to find the guide on the meeting point of the chosen climbing area. Find access maps on the website on the “climbing” pages. Clients must contact the company by phone in case of difficulty on finding the meeting point or the guide. No refunds will be made unless the client contacts the company by phone on time. Delay tolerance of 30 minutes.

  • 10. In case of bad weather, the company will contact the client to change the date. If not possible to postpone, the client will be refunded free of charge. In case of doubtful weather, we will discuss the best solution considering the weather forecast and probability, always prioritizing safety. In this case if we have to retrieve due to bad weather no refunds will be made. Check our weather forecast links!
